Breaking his silence after three days of his impeachment, the former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, has declared his removal as null and void.
Oluomo, representative of Ifo State Constituency 1, said this at a press conference at his quarters on Friday.
The lawmaker, who spoke at his residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, added that he had filed a suit on the issue.
He said: “It (his impeachment) is unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect whatsoever.
“I remain Speaker of the Assembly.
“I have even filed a suit asking the court to determine whether the Speaker of the Assembly could be impeached through a nest.”
Oluomo was on Tuesday impeached and replaced by Oludaisi Elemide, the representative of Odeda Constituency.
Oluomo said he left the premises of the Governor’s Office when the impeachment meeting commenced, accusing the aggrieved lawmakers of terrorising him since the beginning of his second term.
Reacting to allegations of financial misappropriation, Oluomo stressed that he has records of all transactions between himself and the members of the House.

He expressed his disappointment in the lack of intervention of Governor Dapo Abiodun and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress.
The former Speaker, who described Abiodun as his benefactor, said he was still awaiting his intervention.
Oluomo declared his decision to take the matter to court, emphasising the need for justice.
