Former Green Eagles’ skipper, Chief Segun Odegbami, has described the predicament of Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh, as a temporary setback.
Odegbami said the gaffer must focus on the future.
Odegbami believes the mistake would make Oliseh a better coach in the future.
His words: “You know I’m one of the biggest advocates of Oliseh for the national team.
“I was his team manager to Tunisia ’94 Nations Cup and his manager in USA ’94 World Cup.
“Though, I have not seen him coach before, but I felt the years would have tempered him.
“However, Oliseh is a good guy and excellent commentator and this is his opportunity to prove that he is a good coach.
“He started well and he has stumbled.
“Again, Nigerian football was at the low ebb when Oliseh came on board.
“We didn’t have players anywhere and he needs time to raise a new team and I felt his main problem was failing to tell Nigerians to be patient.
“Unfortunately, he got infected with the ordinary matches the team won and his character came to the fore again.
“You don’t allow anger take over you and as the national team’s coach.
“You must be patient with people and answer all the questions.”
Odegbami expressed doubts over Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with the quality of players on parade in the national team.
“I think we might qualify for the Gabon 2017 Afcon, but World Cup would be difficult,” he said.
