Ambassador Musiliu Obanikoro’s son, Babajide, has been declared the winner of the chairmanship election in Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area by the Lagos State Election Petition Tribunal.
Ikoyi Obalende is the LCDA of a former Governor of the state and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Babajide stood for the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Obanikoro was a two-time commissioner during the eight-year regime of Tinubu but ran for the governorship on the platform of the PDP against Tinubu’s preferred candidate and now Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola.
Delivering judgment in the case brought by the PDP against the outcome of the local government poll, which declared the ACN winner of the Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, which had Adewale Adeniji as candidate, the the five-man Tribunal headed by retired Justice Dolapo Akinsanya declared that Babajide won the election by 6,780 votes against ACN’s Adeniji, who scored 6,248 votes.
The tribunal further instructed that Babajide Obanikoro, who was not present in court, to be immediately sworn in as the chairman of the council after the tribunal computed the total result of the votes cast.
