The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers today began a strike to protest the sacking of some of their members on Wednesday by MRS Oil and Gas Plc.
The President of NUPENG, Comrade Igwe Achese, said that there would be no letting up until the sacked workers were reinstated.
Achese said: “Despite the promises and understanding reached between the union and the management of MRS, the company still went ahead to sack our members.
“We have about 2,500 tanker drivers who are our members that were sacked by the company.
“The action of the company is not acceptable to us as a union.
“Imagine sacking 2,500 people with families and dependents at this time of the year.
“What does company want them to do?”
Achese said the strike will affect only the Lagos Zone, which covers Kwara State, Lagos State, Oyo State, Osun State, Ogun State, Ondo State and Ekiti State.
He, however, said that it will not be out of place if other zones joined in the strike action.
