Nigeria’s Sports Minister and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, has described as ‘shocking’ the news of the death of Joseph Ladipo, popularly known as “Coach Jossy Lad”.
The Minister lamented that the death of the coach, coming at a time such as this in sporting development of Nigeria, was indeed “a big loss” not only to his immediate family or Oyo State, but the whole country at large, especially the football family.
As a foremost football coach in Nigeria, Jossy lad was a one-time handler of the country’s national female football team, the Super Falcons, and will be remembered for the exploits of the team at the Africa Women Championships.
A one-time player with the IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan, Leventis United FC of Ibadan, Crown FC of Ogbomosho and 3SC FC of Ibadan, Jossy Lad contributed immensely to the development of female football in Nigeria and even served as Chairman of 3SC Football Club.
It will be recalled that during a visit to the late Coach Jossy Lad at the University College Hospital in Ibadan recently, Abdullahi presented him with N500,000 to assist in offsetting his bills and directed the zonal co-ordinator of the NSC in Ibadan to update him on his progress.
The Minister extended the sincere condolences of the National Sports Commission on behalf of Sports Nigeria to the government and people of Oyo State and also prayed that the Almighty will give the family of late Coach Jossy Lad the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and grant his soul eternal repose.
