The acting Secretary General of the Nigeria Premier League, Tunji Babalola, on Monday frowned at recent attacks on match officials, with a warning to all clubs involved.
Babalola told The Eagle Online that more clubs will be sanctioned for their failure to provide adequate security at their home ground.
Babalola said: “We are disturbed about the incessant crowd violence in our match venues, even without provocation.
“We want to appeal to all clubs to call their supporters to order because what we saw yesterday between Heartland and Enyimba International was not too good for the game.
“It is quite unfortunate that the match could record such unwarranted attack on the match officials.
“I want to say that the Secretariat shall apply the relevant articles when the match reports are received.”
Babalola also said that the call for an emergency congress of the NPL by the Club Owners Association is in order.
He said: “Club Owners Association is duly registered as an umbrella body of the existing Premier League Clubs, therefore, the body has existing legal right to call for a meeting when the need arises as the clubs are the owner of the League and being the shareholders, it is the responsibility of the clubs to converge so as to proffer solutions to the current challenges facing the League.”
Babalola disassociated the NPL from a publication released yesterday discrediting the clubs representatives, stressing that the statement did not emanate from the Secretariat.
He said: “The publication discrediting club owners should be disregarded as it is malicious and pure misrepresentation of facts.
“Further to that, there is no member of staff with the name Idu Jude.
“In view of the current situation, the Congress of the NPL will meet later this week to address the numerous challenges facing the League.”
