Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure have defeated Sporting Lagos FC 1-0 in a Match Day 10 fixture of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League.
The game’s only goal was scored by Moses Omodumueke in the 24th minute of the fierce encounter on Sunday.
All efforts by Sunshine Stars to extend their lead were met with stiff resistance by the defenders of Sporting Lagos in the match played at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.
The visitors themselves could not get the equaliser as the hosts held on tight at the rear.
After the match, Sporting Lagos FC’s Head Coach, Paul Offor, said the referees’ performance was great.
Offor added that the injuries sustained by his team in the course of the league so far did not affect the outcome of the game.
He said: “The league is a marathon and teams have to fight for points every time out.
“So, we will in our next game fight to have the maximum points.”
On his part, Sunshine Stars’ Head Coach, Edith Agoye, said he was happy his team secured the maximum three points at home.
He said: “I am happy with this result because there is no more home advantage in the league.”
Agoye said his players were a bit tense towards the end of the game and was happy the players were able to hold on till the end of the game.
He said he would work on his team scoring more goals and was happy to have had a clean sheet after several games of conceding.
He added: “We are very happy to pick the three points and, with the way the league is going, any team can pick points anywhere.
“Today (Sunday) we played against a team which drew their last game at home.
