Henry Echefu, the Media Officer of Heartland Football Club of Owerri, on Thursday said the team was hopeful the Imo State Government would release funds for their camping programme before Christmas.
Echefu told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that money was urgently needed for the team’s players and officials to camp as part of preparations for the 2017/2018 season.
He however expressed hopes that the money would be released before the players begin a five-day break for the festive season on Friday.
He said: “Hopefully, Governor Rochas Okorocha will release money for the players’ camping ahead of next season. The funds will be released between now and Friday, by God’s grace.
“This is to enable the players resume camping immediately they are back from the break on Wednesday.”
The club spokesman said the team was ready for their Match Day One fixture in the Nigeria Professional Football League against Sunshine Stars FC of Akure on January 14.
Echefu added: “Sunshine Stars is a good team but we are hopeful of three points in that game. It will give us a good start into the season and we are prepared for the game.”
