The body of the late Tahir Mannir Adam was recovered from the lake of the institution.
The 26-year-old was a third year student of the university’s computer science department.
The Joydevpur police station Sub Inspector Quamrul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that Adam went to the lake alone for bathing, but could not swim and so eventually got drowned in the lake.
Quamrul said: “He was unconscious when he was recovered from the lake but was declared dead when we arrived the Tongi Government Hospital.”
“The university authority has ordered an inquiry into the incident and a case has been filed with Joydevpur police station,” said IUT Registrar, Ahsan Habib.
