A video posted on Twitter by a Nigerian singer, Oluwatosin Ajibade, claiming that some Nigerian musicians use Ghanaian sounds for hits, dominated searches on Google in the past one week.
Google’s spokesman, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, made this known in a dispatch to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Lagos.
The spokesman said that the video posted by Ajibade, (a.k.a. Mr Eazi) attracted comments on the social media.
Ajibade is also a songwriter and entrepreneur.
Kola-Ogunlade said: “Once the video went viral, fans raced to Google to watch the video and drop their comments.”
According to Kola-Ogunlade, the release of iPhone 8 and the final match of the Nigeria Professional Football League also trended on Google searches.
He said: “In the world of sports, the Nigerian Professional Football League nine-month-long championship came to an end on September 9.’’
He said that Plateau United defeated Rangers of Enugu by 2- 0.
Kola-Ogunlade said: “The club scored 66 points in total to be the 19th Nigeria League champions. This is also recorded as Plateau United’s first NPFL win.
“Excited fans raced to Google search to get more details about their favourite clubs.”
He added that excited fans and Apple users searched for the prices, specs and colours of iPhones 8 and 8 Plus.
The Google manager said that the prices and release date for the iPhones were announced by Apple alongside the details of the Apple X.
He said that the phones are upgrades to iPhone 7 and 7 Plus range.
Kola-Ogunlade also said that parents and students took to Google search to get updates on the indefinite strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
NAN reports that Google Trends launched in May, 2006, allows one to see how popular search terms and their demography have been overtime on Google.
