Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), the Minister of Interior, has called for the support of the United Kingdom in tackling terrorism and other cross border crimes in the country.
The minister made the call on Thursday in Abuja when the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Dambazau acknowledged the cordial and long standing bilateral relations between both countries and stressed the need to further deepen it.
He decried the spate of insurgency in the country and called for support from friendly nations like the United Kingdom in fighting terrorism.
The minister stressed the need for support in acquiring high technological equipment for Nigeria’s security agencies to combat terrorism and other security challenges facing the country.
“Nigeria is always open to collaborating with friendly nations like the UK in tackling insecurity in the country,” he said.
Dambazau expressed optimism that the war on terror will soon be won with the support of Nigerians and all other stakeholders.
Earlier, Arkwright said the visit was to consolidate the mutual cooperation between both countries.
He pledged the commitment of the UK in supporting Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and other forms of crime.
Arkwright said the UK was also willing to assist the Ministry of Interior in its reforms aimed at enhancing service delivery of security agencies under the ministry
