Seventeen of Nigeria’s Premier League clubs chairmen and managers met at Lamonde Hotel, Wuse, Abuja on Sunday and unanimously dissociated themselves from “the illegal company called the League Management Company (LMC, because the Company was registered without the consent, resolution and approval of the clubs who are the supposed directors of such company as well as the allocation of 20 million shares to himself Hon. Nduka Irabor representing 80 percent of the total shares and 5 million shares to Alhaji Aminu Maigari on behalf of the Nigeria Football Association representing 20 per cent of the total shares.”
The 17 clubs, with the exception of Heartland FC, Sharks FC and Dolphin FC, however, did not sign the communique issued after the Sunday emergency meeting of the Nigeria Professional Football League Club Chairmen and Managers.
The Club Owners, as they are fondly called, summed up by sacking the League Management Company.
They said: “Consequent upon the illegal registration of the League Management Company Limited by Hon. Nduka Irabor League Management Committee we hereby disassociate and derecognise the League Management Committee forthwith.”
The club owners also ordered Tunji Babalola to immediately take over the running of the Nigeria Premier League secretariat and also the day-to-day running of the league.
He has also been charged to mobilise the secretariat staff to all league venues with a view to taking full control of the activities of the league alongside the Football Associations secretaries.
They argued that the actions became necessary since the current 2013 league season is being played without rules and regulations.
They then ordered the executive secretary to put the machinery in motion for the release of rules and regulations guiding the league season to avert indiscriminate decisions and sanctions.
The club owners advised the Babalola to respect all existing legal contractual obligations entered into on behalf of the congress before the constitution of the LMC and also to disregard any contract entered into on behalf of the Premier League without due consent and approval of the congress after the constitution and inauguration of the League Management Committee.
