The National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adewole Adeyanju, on Thursday expressed great fear that Nigeria may end up as a one-party state judging by the gale of defections to the All Progressives Congress.
Adeyanju, who expressed the fear in a statement, specifically warned that such development will not grow the nation’s nascent democracy.
The National Auditor maintained that rather than dumping the PDP for the APC because the party is going to form the government at the centre, all what the PDP members need do is to put on their thinking caps and plan ahead of future elections.
According to him: “The PDP members should go back to the drawing board, put on their thinking caps and plan ahead of future elections.
“That is what is expected of a good politician who really wants to serve his or community.”
Adeyanju reasoned that Nigeria’s democracy needs strong opposition, which will spur any ruling party to work hard for good governance.
His words: “Rushing to the APC by PDP members especially the so called bigwigs is not the answer to the current predicament of the PDP and it is dangerous to our nascent democracy.
“We should come together to review our poor outing and look for a forward.”
The National Auditor expressed the firm optimism that if PDP leaders could come together and put their acts together in a proper perspective, the party would surely bounce back.
The achievements recorded by PDP in the 16 years, he said, will launch it back to power.
