The member representing Chanchaga Constituency, Hon. Marafa Ahmed Guni, has been elected the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly.
Guni emerged on Tuesday.
His nomination was by Hon. Bashir Locogoma from Wushishi Constituency and seconded by Hon. Bako Kassima Alfa representing Bida North Constituency on Tuesday at the Rt. Hon. Usman Alhassan Jikantoro House of Assembly Complex in Minna.
Guni, who was unopposed as Speaker of the 8th Assembly in the state, won the last election in a landslide victory.
Born June 16, 1970, he is a member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists.
While accepting his election as Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Guni said: “I accept the nomination and promise to serve the House and people of Niger State diligently.
“I am your servant and I will continue to be at your service because that is what you elect me to be.
“To do this, we must correct the past and make history.
“We must device every strategy to make judicious use of the mandate given to us by our people.
“We should not only make laws but think of how to realise and achieve better things for our people.”
Hon. Binta Mammah from Gurara Constituency nominated Hon. Husseini Ibrahim representing Agaie Constituency as Deputy Speaker of the House.
The motion was seconded by Nura Garba representing Kotangora II Constituency.
The Clerk of the House, Andullahi Kagara, administered the oath of office in the presence of the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Ahmed Ketso.
