The Nigeria Governors’ Forum Secretariat has concluded arrangements to hold its 4th National Internally Generated Revenue Peer Learning Event on Wednesday.
The theme of the programme, according to a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, by the Head, Media and Public Affairs of the Secretariat, Abdulrazaque Barkindo, is “Mobilising Domestic Financing for Development”.
Barkindo said that the programme was part of the NGF secretariat’s strategic mandate to provide a platform for peer learning, reflection and sharing of experiences on sub-national issues.
He said: “The meeting is organised annually as a platform for the Federal and State tax authorities to discuss and share experiences on practical reforms that have led to improved revenue generation in the country.
“It also provides an opportunity for the NGF to share major findings from its support programmes and research carried out in the last year.”
He said that the event would provide a platform to share commendable execution and operational choices that had improved the administration of tax at the sub-national level.
He said that the programme’s sub-themes include, estimating the IGR potential of States; incentivising health financing through tax-for-service; and establishing a consolidated revenue code for all state and local government taxes.
Barkindo said that the meeting would be attended by the Executive Chairmen of the State Boards of Internal Revenue.
Also expected at the event were all Commissioners for Finance from the 36 states of the federation, the Ministry of Finance, Joint Tax Boards, the Federal Inland Revenue Services and development partners.
