The Nigeria Football Federation at the weekend issued a stern warning to clubs in the Nigeria Nationwide League and host state Football Associations to be upright as the final matches of the season in the Divisions 1B and 1D are played on August 6.
NFF’s Director of Competitions, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, said any club or host state FA found to be involved in any hanky-panky would be visited with severe sanctions.
Sanusi said: “It is important that the clubs take a cue from what has happened to those four clubs involved in scandalous scorelines. The NFF will not hesitate to deal severely with any club found to be involved in dirty compromise or inducement, or any other silly game for that matter, and the host State FA will not be spared.”
In Tuesday’s final matches of the season in the aforementioned divisions, Atiba United square up against J. Atete in Oyo town, while Ajiroba Ooni and Go Round FC light up Ile-Ife. Canaan City host FC Inter and Court of Appeal take on Rhapsody in Lokoja.
Dallatu FC are away to Boro United in Kaduna while Bida Lions are home to FC Lokoja and Meridian Airline and Sardauna Kano tackle themselves in Kano. Lobi Jnr. Stars are up against Nigeria Prisons FC in Makurdi.
“All State FAs and clubs involved in these matches are warned to abide strictly by the rules and regulations guiding association football. The Secretariat will sanction any misdemeanour by any club while concerned State FAs will not be spared,” Sanusi added.
