A presidential candidate for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Dr. Christian Emeruwa has set aside the sum of N64 million for the fast-approaching election in Benin City, Edo State.
Emeruwa, who is head of safety and security for Confederation of African Football (CAF) made this disclosure on Thursday on Sport Zone, a sporting programme on Lagos Talk 93.1 FM.
According to him, the NFF President is an expensive venture with meetings and travels to discuss with delegates across the country.
“Trying to talk to the delegates may require you to travel to most of the states in the country.
“Flight tickets are on the high side now. You need to get a comfortable venue to hold the meetings. Hotel accommodation is also required. It requires a lot of money to achieve these goals and convince them (delegates) that you are the right man for the job.
“You know I can’t speak for other candidates but I budgeted the sum of N64 million to campaign,” he declared.
Asked how he raised the humongous amount of money for the campaign exercise, Emeruwa said 50 per cent of it was from his personal savings, while others were from stakeholders and friends who believed in him to revamp Nigerian football.
Emeruwa, a former NFF staff, said that his various meetings and dialogue with stakeholders and other football elders made him decide to contest for the post, adding that he possesses all the required qualities to occupy the seat of the president of the Nigeria Football Federation.
The Abia State indigene is a member of various professional sport bodies in Nigeria and abroad. He is member of the pioneer class as well as the first African to be a Certified Sport Safety and Security Professional from SRH Heidelberg University, Germany in a Course facilitated by the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) Doha, Qatar.
He will slug it out for the NFF President with 10 other candidates at the Federation’s elections scheduled for Friday, 30th September.
Top on the list are current 1st Vice President, Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi; current 2nd Vice President, Mallam Shehu Dikko; current Chairman of Chairmen, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau; current Member of Board, Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande; and immediate past General Secretary, Barr. Musa Amadu.
