The Nigeria Football Federation has dumped the idea of hiring a foreign coach, The Eagle Online has learnt.
This, according to impeccable sources, is because the NFF “is broke”.
The President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick, had after the exit of former Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh, hinted that the Federation was considering hiring a foreign coach.
However, the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, had opposed the idea.
This was primarily because of the fund for hiring the foreign coach.
Following the inability of the NFF to raise the fund to hire a foreign coach, it was gathered that the football federation is considering making the interim coach of the Super Eagles, Salisu Yusuf, the team’s substantive coach.
Sources said the football house is of the opinion that time is running out for the Super Eagles to have a permanent coaching crew in place in order to commence preparations for the upcoming competitions involving the team.
A source told The Eagle Online: “We cannot afford to waste anymore time waiting to hire a foreign coach.
“We do not even have the money to do so.
“So the likelihood is that Yusuf will be confirmed as the substantive coach of the team.”
