In its quest to show commitment to environmentally sustainable business practices, Nestle Nigeria Plc on Thursday joined the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s World Environmental Day.
The annual event is meant to raise global awareness of environmental issues, with a view to taking appropriate environmental actions.
One of the highlights of this year’s celebration was a facility tour of Nestle Factory in Agbara, Ogun State by a group of environment journalists, who gained insight into various initiatives of Nestle Nigeria Plc aimed at minimising the environmental impact of food production and optimising environmental performance across the entire value chain.
The media team visited the production facilities such as the Malt plant, Milo, Tri-generation Power Plant, Waste Water Treatment Facility and the new ultra-modern Maggi production plant.
The theme for this year’s commemoration was: “Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level.”
The journalists were received by the Managing Director and Chief Executive, Nestle Nigeria Plc, Dharnesh Gordhon, who in his welcome address reaffirmed the company’s commitment to environmentally sustainable business practices.
Gordhon said Nestle derives efficiency in manufacturing by increasing water reuse, reducing water withdrawal and discharging and returning clean water to the environment, among others.
According to him: “We believe that all parts of society share responsibility for the environment.
“However, we are determined to provide leadership within our own spheres of influence.”
He added that the company’s environmental stewardship will continue to be guided by three principles: responsibility towards society, present and future; desire to delight consumers; and dependence on a clean environment that can provide high quality resources needed to make high quality food.
