Navy Referral Hospital will curtail medical tourism — Official

The Nigerian Navy said on Thursday that it was determined to render quality health services to members of the public to curtail medical tourism.
Rear Adm. Matthew Emuekpere, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, said this during a familiarisation tour of the Nigerian Navy Referral Hospital, Calabar, and other naval formations within the state.
Emuekpere said that the hospital, equipped with modern medical facilities, was ready for inauguration but did not disclose the date for the ceremony.
He said: “The commissioning is going to take place very soon and we are expecting President Muhammadu Buhari to commission the project. I am asking all Nigerians to be patient with us.
“The services to be rendered will cut across all medical fields. By the time this hospital kicks off fully, I believe it will drastically check medical tourism to other countries.’’
According to him, the services will be far more affordable than what is obtainable in foreign countries.
He, therefore, urged all Nigerians to make use of the facility when it becomes operational.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Emuekpere and his team also visited the Nigerian Navy Primary School, Calabar; Navy secondary school, Akpabuyo and the Nigerian Navy barracks in Atimbo and Akim.
