The Nigerian Navy on Friday handed over three kidnapped expatriates it rescued in Ajidaibo community in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State to their employer.
The victims – Messrs Manjeel Gahlawat, Rattan Chandra and Miyanak Caini – were handed over to K.S. Pathania, a representative of CS OFFSHORE Nigeria Limited.
Captain Musa Gemu, who handed over the expatriates at the Naval Base, Warri, said they were kidnapped on March 5 in Brass, Bayelsa State.
Gemu said that the men were rescued by the Nigerian Navy on March 6 in collaboration with men of Delta State Waterways Committee.
He said: “I want to use this opportunity to handover the three kidnapped Indians to a representative of CS OFFSHORE Nigeria Limited, K.S. Pathania.
“They are in healthy condition.”
Gemu said that the men were kidnapped at seven nautical miles off Brass Island on March 5.
He added: “It took the combined effort of the Nigerian Navy in Escravos and the men of Delta Waterways Committee to rescue them on March 6 in Ajidaibo forest near Ugborodo.
“The kidnappers escaped with some of the victims’ personal belongings.”
Gemu said that the Nigerian Navy was committed to sanitising the nation’s waterways from all forms of illegalities, including bunkering, pipeline vandalism and sea piracy.
“We will continue to explore all parts of the sea, rivers and creeks with our ships to ensure that expatriates are safe in my areas of responsibility as directed by the Chief of Naval Staff.”
Chandra said that the kidnappers came in a speed boat while they were on duty.
