The Nigeria National League has sternly warned all clubs in the League to desist from act(s) that will bring the game to disrepute.
Speaking yesterday in Abuja, the Chairman of the League, Chief
Emeka Inyama decried a situation where acts of hooliganism have become the order of the day.
“We have recorded increasing crowd violence especially in the North;
Match officials are assaulted and encroachment into the field of
play”, be bemoaned.
He confirmed that correspondingly, that the NNL has been dishing out
deterrent punishment to the clubs. The latest axe, according to the
NNL has fallen on TEAP FC of Abuja and Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna.
TEAP FC has been banished to Katsina and Tornadoes FC to Kano for
remaining league matches of the season. Also the club secretary of
Plateau Utd, Mr. David Lang has been banned for the rest of the
season.
Inyama confirmed that supporters club of Plateau Utd FC and Giwa FC
have been find N300,000 each for infringing on the rules. The Chairman
said the remaining matches will be closely monitored and some matches
have been placed as HIGH RISK MATCHES for closer monitoring.
On the officiating officials, Chief Inyama confirmed that many of the
calls of the referees according to reports have been very unfair. “We
have in conjunction with the Referees Committee been punishing the
referees. The clubs are not helping matters either”.
For the remaining matches, only Premier class referees and Match
Commissioners will be used to benefit from their experience.
