Nasarawa to set up commission of enquiry on killing of security agents

Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State said on Monday that government would soon institute a Judicial Commission of Enquiry on the recent killing of security agents in the state.
Al-Makura announced the plan in Lafia, the state capital, when he received a delegation of Peoples Democratic Party concerned stakeholders, led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
According to the governor, the commission will thoroughly investigate the incident, with a view to fishing out and punishing the perpetrators and their sponsors.
He said that the killing of the security agents was not only a blow to the state but a challenge to the authority and sovereignty of Nigeria.
Al-Makura said his administration would not relent till the perpetrators of the crime were brought to justice.
Earlier, Adamu said they were at the Government House, Lafia, to express sympathy to the people over the killings and to render support toward the restoration of peace in the state.
Adamu, a former governor of the state, urged the state government to reciprocate the ultimate price paid by the security personnel by ensuring that their death was not in vain.
He also urged the state government to rise to the challenge.
He said: “The least the government and the people of the state can do is to reciprocate their sacrifice by fishing out their killers to face the full weight of the law.
“It behoves us as citizens to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Nasarawa State Government in this obviously difficult task of defeating the forces of darkness stalking the land.”
He called on the people to embrace peace, noting that peace was the most valuable social commodity in the world without which human progress and development would be impossible.
“As a state, we must not allow the little gains that our efforts are beginning to have to be lost as a result of this misfortune,” Adamu said.
The former governor also urged the state government to educate the people on their roles to avert violence in the current security challenges in the country.
