The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) said it has sealed a juice manufacturing company, B-Supreme, in Ibadan for producing without the agency’s registration number.
The NAFDAC South-West Director, Rosline Ajayi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, in Ibadan.
Ajayi said that the Agency got wind of the operation of the company through collaboration that existed within it.
She added: “we collaborate a lot; our state office in Osun sent information via WhatsApp clip of the company’s products that was discovered in a hamper without NAFDAC registration number.
“Our state office sent me the clip to verify because it has an Ibadan address and I checked whether the company has a file with NAFDAC and truly it has.
“However, while going through the file, I discovered that the company actually applied for registration, but no indication that inspection was done
or NAFDAC number given.”
The director said that an application and payment were not the same as registration, adding that a lot of procedures were involved in registration of a product.
Ajayi said that the Agency’s inspection officers were deployed to locate the company’s address and on getting there, they discovered that it was into the production of three varieties of juices without NAFDAC number.
“The first step we took was to seal the premises because it is an unauthorised premises producing unregistered products.
“We invited the producer to come to our office and it was when he came that we discovered that he actually registered for water production in 2018.
“He initiated registration for the production of juice but did not complete it.”
