Andy Murray has withdrawn from the US Open due to a persistent hip injury.
Murray, Wimbledon winner in 2013 and 2016, has not played since crashing out at the quarter-finals stage at SW19 in July and will now miss the last Grand Slam of the year.
“It’s too sore for me to win the tournament and ultimately that’s what I was here to try and do,” Murray said at a press conference on Saturday.
“I’ll definitely make a decision on the rest of the year in the next few days,” added Murray.
The former world number one left the decision to the last possible moment but after a week of practice decided he is not fit enough to do himself justice.
