The Founder of the Silverbird Group and Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has reacted to the taking over of the company by the Assets Management Company of Nigeria over indebtedness.
Murray-Bruce said tough times do not last but tough people do.
The Group was taken over by AMCON on Thursday following an N11 billion debt owed Union Bank of Nigeria Plc.
Murray-Bruce, representative of Bayelsa East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, on his Twitter handle on Thursday tweeted: “In 36 years, Silverbird has grown, and like anybody, it will face challenges.
“Tough times don’t last, but we as tough people outlast them.
“I have been on an international flight and I have only just landed.
“The situation is being resolved and things will be back to normal.”
AMCON on Thursday morning took over Silverbird assets in the Federal Capital Territory.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria, who visited the premises, reports that the galleria was under lock and key, with the supervision of armed policemen who prevented people from entering the place.
The takeover followed an interim order granted by the Federal High Court, Lagos on June 17.
The Court Order, with the caption: “AMCON: Caveat Emptor-Possession taken by Court Order,” were conspicuously pasted on the locked gate.
Some of the owners of businesses and staff within the Silverbird premises, who spoke to NAN on the ground of anonymity, said they were dazed by the development.
According to them, they resumed work in the morning, like any other day, only to see the place under lock and key by armed policemen.
All efforts to reach the Management and staff of Silverbird, Abuja were unsuccessful.
NAN, however, put a call through to the Brand Manager of Silverbird Headquarters, Lagos, Aniekan Equere, who confirmed that Silverbird in Lagos had also been taken over by AMCON.
Equere, however, said the situation was under control.
He said: “The seal up affects only Abuja and Lagos branches of our operations.
“It is strictly an official matter, and we are seriously working on it.
“Within the next 24 hours, our offices shall be reopened for business again.”
