Nigeria’s duo of John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses look set to make a surprise return in Chelsea’s line up against Manchester City in the first of two Stateside post-season encounters in the USA.
Both Nigerian players, who have excused themselves from the Super Eagles friendly against Mexico, made Chelsea’s trip to America and are ready to play the grudge game against the Premier League runners-up.
Manchester City, having recently joined forces with the New York Yankees baseball franchise to create an NYCFC MLS outfit, take all their big guns including Joe Hart, Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero and David Silva to St Louis.
The encounter is slated for St Louis, Missouri, in the first of two Stateside post-season encounters before a second clash in New York.
Unlike the Nigerians, Ashley Cole, Gary Cahill and Frank Lampard will take early leave to join up with Roy Hodgson’s England squad.
Meanwhile, Chelsea and Manchester City met in last season’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley in April.
City went on to the final only to lose out to a late Wigan winner.
