The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed, has advised the FCT College of Education, Zuba, to evolve means of boosting its Internally Generated Revenue in order to meet some of its challenges.
Mohammed, who was represented by the Minister of State for FCT, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, gave the advice on Saturday at the convocation ceremony of 4,549 students of the institution.
He assured the school that the FCT Administration would continue to support the college of education through the augmentation of its monthly overheads and other interventions.
He said: “I wish to state that the College management should focus on coming out with more Public Private Partnership initiatives for development and other needs.
“The institution is our own and we will not relent in providing necessary support for it to function better.
“I am aware of other challenges you are facing and as I said earlier, the FCTA will continue to support you.
“We will ensure timely completion of the institution’s permanent site as well as assist in tackling the school’s other challenges.”
Mohammed lauded the impressive performance of the College of Education during the recent accreditation exercises conducted by the National Commission for Colleges of Education.
He also commended the National Assembly for the passage of the enabling law establishing the FCT College of Education, Zuba and therefore appealed to the two chambers of the National Assembly to conduct harmonization of the bill for the assent of the President.
Two former Ministers of the FCT – Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni and Alhaji Aliyu Modibbo Umar – were conferred with the institution’s Fellowship at the convocation ceremony also attended by the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike.
The College of Education, Zuba was established in 1977 to provide the FCT with National Certificate of Education teachers in the primary and secondary schools
