Mob beats policemen, injure two in Lagos

Barely two weeks that two persons were allegedly killed by policemen in Lagos State, another person is suspected to have been killed again by policemen from the Oko Oba Police Division.
The death of the deceased was said to have happened after street urchins, otherwise known as area boys, and policemen clashed at the Oko Oba area of the metropolis.
In the fight, which an eyewitness claimed started at about 8am on Wednesday, it was gathered that a good number of policemen were injured, while two policemen were rushed by their colleagues to the hospital.
The reason for the clash between police and area boys are yet unknown, but the police authorities insisted that pandemonium broke our after a suspected robber snatched a motorcycle from a man around Oko Oba axis.
It was further learnt that some policemen, from the station, had pursued the suspect to Abattoir area.
It was also heard that the fleeing suspect, fearing the cops were almost on him, ran into the home of his friend for protection.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ngozi Braide, said the policemen were beaten to a pulp but they allegedly refused to retaliate.
Braide explained that some policemen who, on routine patrol, noticed a man on the ground, stopped to check on him.
The man told them that his motorcycle had just been snatched by a robber.
The policemen allegedly spotted the robber and pursued him.
Braide said: “The robber rode to where his friends were at the Abattoir area and his friends started to fight the policemen.
“They damaged the patrol van and beat up the policemen with all sorts of weapons but policemen refused to retaliate.
“Two policemen were injured and had been rushed to a hospital.
“Nobody was shot or killed by police.”
