Assistant Inspector General of Police Joseph Mbu on Wednesday advised police officers not to compromise their integrity in the course of performing their duties during the forthcoming general elections.
Mbu gave the advice while addressing senior officers during his familiarisation visit to the Lagos State Police Command.
He said any erring officer caught would be dealt with.
“I admonish all police officers to be confident during the electioneering period and anyone who compromises in the course of the election duty will be dealt with,” he said.
Mbu said officers in the zone would play their part to ensure a free and fair election.
He said: “The election challenge before us is an opportunity to write history.
“So, we cannot afford to allow anything to go wrong during the elections.
“Instead, as police officers, we are to sacrifice all to ensure a free and fair election.”
Mbu urged his men not to hesitate in arresting anyone perceived to be a sponsor of violence.
“I have given orders to my men to respond to any violent act by any hoodlum before during and after the elections,” he said.
Mbu urged the public to embrace peace as key to free and fair elections, adding that his men would not relent in bringing offenders to book.
The police chief also said he would not tolerate any indecent dressing by any officer.
“I am here to make history with the officers in my command,” he said.
