The match fixting scandal that rocked the Nigeria Premier League at the close of last season has earned Dolphins Football Club of Port Harcourt and Sunshine Football Club of Akure a fine of N30 million.
While Sunshine FC is to cough out N20 million, Dolphins will pay N10 million.
Both clubs were accused of match fixing to favour Dolphins that eventually emerged tops of the league table.
Referees and officials of clubs involved in the scandal also earned themselves five years ban from the football scene in the country.
The disciplinary committee set up by the Nigerian Football Federation to look into the allegation of match fixing in last year’s league passed the verdicts today.
Chairman of Lobi Stars FC, Dominic Iorfa, filed the petition that resulted in the setting up of a committee to probe the allegations.
Leye Adepoju, who read the verdict of the committee that had Tunde Aderibigbe as secretary, said the NFF was satisfied there was a move to fix the match between Sunshine FC and Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi.
He said that article 451 of the Nigerian Premier league rules and regulations 2010/2011 season provides that any club/official or player or referee who by whatever arrangement with any other person or persons or organisation influences or attempts to influence the result of a match shall be deemed of gross misconduct.
He said further that although the rules and regulations do not define the word match fixing, it is clear that to be guilty of match fixing, or attempt as the case may be, the “accused person “ must be a club official or a club player or a referee.
He said it was clear from the ruling that from the interaction of the parties mentioned in the case, there was an attempt to fix the match in order to influence the result.
The referees involved in the match fixing allegation, Chrisantus Okoro and CID Duruna were banned for five years.
Divine Benjamin also got a five-year ban from participating in football activities in the country.
Club officials, Stanley Eguma and Ere Dokubo, also got five years ban each while Iorfa and Mike Idoko were sternly warned for their unsportmanly activities.
