Manchester United FC on Sunday opened an eight-point lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League, foreclosing, almost, the possibility of any team overtaking it before the close of the season.
Manchester United achieved the feat with a 2-0 defeat of Queens Park Rangers in a march it dominated.
The win took Manchester United’s points haul to 79.
Its closest and city rival, Manchester City has 71 points.
Manchester City, which had dominated the top of the table for the better part of the league, lost on Sunday to an in-form Arsenal FC by a lone goal.
It was a match in which the Gunners did not give Manchester City any breather from the first minute.
With Manchester United having the likes of Wigan, Villa, Everton, Swansea and Sunderland to contend with in the matches that will lead to the conclusion of the season, football enthusiasts believe the league is already won and lost with the outcome of today’s matches.
