Man jailed 12 months for stealing, converting company’s money

An Abeokuta, Ogun State Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 31-year-old man, Oluwafemi Sangowale, to 12 months imprisonment for stealing his boss’s money, being the proceed of sales.

The Magistrate, Olajumoke Somefun, convicted Sangowale on a count charge of stealing before her court on Friday.

Somefun held that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and that the defendant was guilty as charged.

She sentenced Sangowale to 12 months imprisonment with an option of N100,000 fine.

She ordered that the fine shall be activated upon the payment of N1 million to the complainants as restitution.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the convict committed the offence on June 9, 2021 at 3C HUB Brand Management in Lalubu, Oke-Ilewo area of Abeokuta.

Shonibare said that the defendant, the branch manager of 3C Hub, sold phones, accessories and electronics worth N1.3 million and did not remit the money to the company’s account.

He said the convict converted the money to his personal use.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
