LMC moves Elkanemi, Dolphins game

The League Management Company has moved the game between Elkanemi and Dolphins by 24 hours.
The General Manager of Dolphins, Dumbo Awanen, said on Tuesday that after lots of deliberations and talking on phone, they have agreed to travel to Maiduguri, Borno State by road on Wednesday.
“We spoke and the Gombe State Police Commissioner agreed to give us an escort team to Maiduguri and we leave tomorrow (Wednesday) morning,” Awanen said.
Answering why the club settled on the police and not the army to escort them into the town, Awanen simply said: “We are satisfied with the security arrangements.”
The General Manager also said the players and officials in the traveling party are also at ease and have accepted the decision of the management and the LMC.
He said: “The players will train this evening (Tuesday) and we have told them we are here on a mission. It is our job and we have no choice but to do it.”
Meanwhile, a player with Dolphins Football Club has cried out that they do not want to go to Maiduguri for the game against El Kanemi following the spate of recent terrorists’ attacks on the city.
The defender (name withheld) said he has already informed his family that they should hold the Rivers State Government and Federal Ministry of Sports responsible if anything happens to them.
The player said: “We are reading the local papers here in Gombe and even the governor of Borno State has said any one plying that route is on his own, so why are they insisting that we go?
“Or is our commissioner not aware of the killings on that road? We do not want to go for the match. We will lose anyway so why risk our lives.”
