LG immunises 120, 000 children against polio, other diseases

The Ungogo Local Government Area in Kano State has immunised more than 120,000 children against polio and five other killer diseases in the first round of the exercise.
Malam Baffa Kurawa, the Information Officer of the local government area, made this known while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ungogo on Saturday.
Kurawa said that the exercise had recorded a huge success in the area in spite of some resistance at Tudun Fulani which, he added, was promptly neutralised.
Kurawa stressed that the Tudun Fulani ward was mainly inhabited by non-indigenes, a factor which, he noted, was responsible for the residents’ unresponsiveness toward the vaccination programme.
He, however, noted that Alhaji Abdulkadir Chedi, the District Head of Ungogo, had directed all the ward heads in his domain to mobilise the people for immunisation and ensure its success.
Kurawa also commended Alhaji Babasharu Dala, the Interim Management Officer of the council, for his proactive efforts to ensure a hitch-free immunisation in the area.
NAN reports that the September round of the polio immunisation, which began on Sept. 7, will end on Sept. 15 in all the 44 local government areas of the state.
