Some aggrieved communities protesting over the recently created 18 new Local Council Development Areas in Ekiti State on Wednesday took their case to the state House of Assembly.
Two of the communities, Erinmope-Ekiti and Ikun-Ekiti in Moba Local Government Area, submitted their protest letters to the Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin.
The two communities protested the siting of the new Ero Local Council Development Area headquarters in Igogo-Ekiti.
The spokesman for Ikun-Ekiti, Chief Olatunji Owoeye, claimed that his community originally demanded for Ero Local Government out of the present Moba.
Owoeye said the community submitted the memorandum to the Committee on Creation of Local Governments in Ekiti State, headed by retired Justice Akin Ajakaye.
He also claimed that Igogo-Ekiti agitated for the creation of Isokan Local Government Area, saying he was surprised that Igogo-Ekiti was made the headquarters of the proposed Ero Local Government.
The President of Erinmope Development Union, Alhaji Lasisi Salami, who led another protest group to the Assembly, said the status of the traditional institution ought to be considered in determining council headquarters.
Salami said his community has a first class traditional ruler while Igogo-Ekiti has a third class monarch.
Both Ikun-Ekiti and Erinmope-Ekiti, which were made to serve under Igogo-Ekiti in the new proposed Ero LCDA, are now agitating that their communities should have been the headquarters of the newly created local council in Moba constituency 11.
The people of Igogo-Ekiti community, which would now host the headquarters, commended the state government over the exercise.
The traditional ruler of the town, Oba Sunday Adewumi, who also visited the Assembly, expressed gratitude to the lawmakers over the exercise.
The Speaker, after listening to the arguments of the three communities, promised that the House would look into the issue and advice government appropriately.
