The Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Chief Dan Dul, has applauded the state Governor, Barrister Simon Lalong, for taking the path of justice and restoring his mandate, which has further strengthened democracy in the state.
Chief Dul, in a statement on Monday, described the decision of Governor Lalong to swear him in as the duly elected Chairman of the council as the best tenet of democracy.
Dul was elected as the Chairman of Langtang North LGa but the previous administration of Jonah Jang prevented him from assuming office despite a court judgment that reaffirmed his victory and ordered that he should sworn in immediately.
Dul said in the statement on MondayL “Your Excellency, your background as a trained lawyer and a one time chairman of Conference Forum of Nigeria’s Speakers which is the apex law making body in the country and by respecting the court judgment, you have demonstrated that you are a lawyer per excellence, leader, true democrat and a respecter of the Rule of Law.”
He commended the electorates of Langtang North Local Government Area for remaining peaceful and patient throughout the period of struggling to validate his mandate and urged them to continue to be peaceful, law abiding and to support the administration of Barrister Lalong and the local administration in Langtang North in order to deliver the dividends of democracy to them.
He said: “We thank God for sending Barrister Lalong to us in Plateau State who also made it possible for me to be in the saddle today as the Executive Chairman of Langtang North LGA. I wish to register my profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of our state Barrister Simon Bako Lalong for respecting and upholding the verdict of Local Government Election Petition Tribunal that ruled in our favour.
“We shall do everything possible to deliver dividends of democracy to our teeming electorate in line with our campaign promises in order to shame our enemies who prevented us from assuming office despite that the people gave the mandate and a competent court of law affirmed our mandate but somebody decided to denied us the mandate and today we thank God for sending Barrister Lalong to end that reign and restored our mandate and confidence of our people on democracy.”
