Lagos tanker fire explosion: Group commiserates with Lagos, families of victims

An NGO, The Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Justice in Africa, on Friday expressed condolence to families of victims of Thursday’s petrol tanker fire in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that several persons reportedly lost their lives and property in the incident which occurred on Otedola Bridge at Ojodu Berger area of Lagos.
John Mayaki, the Country Director of CGGEJA, in a condolence message made available to NAN in Benin, described the recent period as “a trying period for Nigeria as a country”.
Mayaki also described the incident as traumatic for the families of the victims.
He said: “I survived similar horror along Shagamu-Ore-Benin expressway in 2016, the same day I returned from holidays in the United States of America.
“I therefore commended the various government agencies and other good-spirited Nigerians for their immediate responses at putting out the fire.
“Their bravery and sacrifice will live on in the hearts of the Nigerians.”
Mayaki called on government at all levels to diligently address causes of these tragedies and take appropriate measures to mitigate against their recurrence.
He said: “I wish peace and tranquility for the country and the Nigerian nation; I wish comfort and well-being to the families who lost their loved ones in the Lagos tanker fire, among others, across the country.
“Certainly, these are trying times in the Nigerian nation; the Lagos tanker fire is one of the most painful incidences after the Plateau massacre that we have witnessed plunging the country into sadness.
“Nigerians will always remember the stressful nights and days that ended so tragically.”
