Lagos lines up week long events for Public Service Week

The Lagos State Head of Service, Olabowale Ademola, has asserted that arrangements have been concluded to ensure a successful week-long programme of events for the celebration of this year’s Public Service Week in the State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Alausa, Lagos, the Head of Service explained that the celebration is in appreciation of the efforts of Public Servants towards efficient service delivery and good governance.
Ademola noted that the annual event became imperative following the 1994 declaration of the Pan-African Conference of Ministers of Public/Civil Service in Tangier, Morocco in order to highlight the importance of the Public Service in meeting the challenges of the 21st Century.
She said: “Further to the 1994 declaration of the 1st Pan-African Conference of Ministers for Public/Civil Service in Tangier, Morocco, the African Public Service Day has been celebrated annually throughout Africa on the 23rd of June. This celebration is in appreciation of the efforts of Public Servants towards efficient service delivery and good governance. It also serves to highlight the importance of the Public Service in meeting the challenges of the 21st Century.”
According to Ademola, this year’s celebration will be kicked off with a Jumat service at the State Secretariat Mosque in Alausa on June 17, which would be followed by a Walk for Fitness by all Public Servant on June 18, 2016.
She added that the Walk for Fitness will commence at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat and will terminate at the House of Assembly Complex in Alausa.
She said an interdenominational Thanksgiving Service will take place on June 19 at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa Ikeja by 9:30am, which will be followed by a Parade by various Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government on June 20 at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
Ademola pointed out that Day 5 of the celebration will feature visitation to charitable organisations by Public Servants as well as Health Day, which will include screening for blood pressure, cervical/breast/prostrate cancers, diabetes and hepatitis among other non communicable diseases.
She noted that the celebration would be rounded off at a grand finale at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa.
This will feature the annual public service lecture and the recognition of Outstanding Public Servants both in the senior and junior officers’ category.
