Kwara United FC have recalled their players ahead of the replay of the Week 14 Group A2 match of the 2015/2016 Nigeria National League with FC Taraba.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday in Ilorin by the Media Officer of the club, Jimoh Bashir.
Bashir said the match, originally played at the State Stadium on October 2, ended a goal apiece.
But a protest filed by Wikki Tourists Feeders team accusing the two clubs of match fixing occasioned the replay of the match in Abuja as ordered by the Organising and Disciplinary Committee of Nigeria Football Federation.
The committee noted that the decision for the match to be rescheduled to October 2 at 10am was not complied with as the match did not start as scheduled.
The committee therefore classified the match as “no match” and ordered a replay in Abuja under closed doors with close supervision by the NNL, while FC Taraba were also fined N1 million.
According to the statement, the replay will now hold on Wednesday in Abuja.
Kwara United resumed on Saturday for training and will also train on Monday before departing for Abuja for the match.
A win for Kwara United FC means that FC Taraba will be relegated, while a draw or win for FC Taraba will keep them in the NNL as Wikki Tourists Feeder team will drop to the Nationwide League.
Kwara United Chairman, Oladimeji Thompson, however, said in the statement that the team would abide by the decisions of the disciplinary committee and would honour the replay with FC Taraba on Wednesday.
Thompson commended the players and officials for cutting short their holiday to honour the match, charging them to put in their best in the encounter.
“Even though the decision destabilised our programmes and also caused some level of inconvenience, we have to honour the match because we are a disciplined and law abiding club,” he said.
