Kidnappers of the former Delta State Head of Service, Dr. Sylvanus Mordi, have opened contacts with his kinsmen, demanding a whooping N10 million.
The abductors, The Eagle Online gathered, in Asaba, the state capital, also added a clause: “If you people wish him released alive.”
The ex-HOS was accosted along Igbanke Road in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, while on his way to Abuja from Agbor, last week.
The hoodlums have since then remained incommunicado.
Even when the kidnappers called, a family source said they were barred from speaking with him.
Dr. Mordi, a grassroot politician from Ika axis of the state, represented the South-South region in the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.
He became the commission’s Commissioner for Policy and assumed the position of the oil rich state’s Head of Service when Chief James Onanefe Ibori was the helmsman.
The Acting Police Public Relations Officer of the state, Charles Muka, confirmed that the victim’s kinsmen have been in contact with his abductors, a week after he was whisked away in mysterious circumstance in a nearby community in Edo State.
Muka hinted of how the state command has formed synergy with the Edo State Command to net the perpetrators and facilitate his safe release.
He reiterated the warning of the state Commissioner of Police, Ayo Ikechukwu Aduba, to families and guardians of kidnapped victims not to pay any ransom to kidnappers.
