Golden Eaglets forward, Taiwo Awoniyi, on Friday in Ilorin, Kwara State expressed delight at the invitation extended to him by Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, for the African Nations Championship preparations.
Keshi had on Thursday released a 30-man list of home-based players who will begin preparations for Nigeria’s debut appearance at next year’s CHAN in South Africa.
Awoniyi told the News Agency of Nigeria he was very happy at the invitation.
He said: “I have to first of all thank God.
“This invitation is not because I am the best among the Golden Eaglets team, but it was by God’s grace.
“However, once you are given an opportunity, you have to put in your best.
“So, I will do all I can to make the team by God’s grace.”
Awoniyi scored three goals at the last FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, with his two famous goals against Uruguay in the semi-finals.
Dele Alampasu, Kelechi Iheanacho and Awoniyi were the three players from the world-conquering Golden Eaglets invited to the home-based Eagles camp by Keshi.
Nigeria will play alongside hosts, South Africa, Mali and Mozambique in Cape Town in the competition’s first round.
