A former Governor of Abia State and Nigeria’s pillar of sports, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has sympathized with Americans over the shooting and killing of 27 kids ranging from ages five to 10 and some teachers in an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, United States of America on Friday.
Kalu, who is in Congo, passed his message to the Americans, especially parents of the dead pupils and President Barack Obama, through the Ambassador of the United States of America to Congo, Ambassador James F. Entwistle.
He said it was a big shock that an adult could turn the gun on innocent children who stood the chance of being some of the best America could have produced in the future.
Kalu, in a statement by his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewumi, said: “My heart reaches out to parents who are grieving now over the death of their loved children in such a bizarre manner.
“So also do I share in the grieve of President Barack Obama, who was moved to tears just like I was too on leaning of the development.
“May the Lord console everyone who has lost a loved one and also touch the hearts of those who may have such dastardly plans in mind.”
Also speaking from Kinshasha, Congo, Kalu commiserated with the family of the late Head of the Anglican Communion in Nigeria, Archbishop Abiodun Adetiloye.
Kalu, who extended his condolences to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, the Anglican community worldwide, the Christian community in Nigeria and Nigerians in general, described Adetiloye as a fearless preacher who would say the truth no matter who was involved.
Oyewumi added in the statement on behalf of Kalu: “Archbishop Adetiloye is one of the very few fearless preachers we have in Nigeria.
“If you need to hear the truth from the pulpit, then he is one of the very few to turn to for counsel and advice.”
Kalu said though it is comforting to know that Adetiloye has gone to be with the God he served while alive, Nigerians will miss his Godly and wise counsel.
He prayed for the repose of Adetiloye’s soul and the fortitude for his family to bear the great loss.
