The 400 intending pilgrims from Kano, who were aboard the ill-fated Kabo Airline’s Boeing 747 aircraft at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport, Sokoto, on Friday have been finally transported to Saudi Arabia.
Madu Bukar, the Acting Manager of the Sokoto airport, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Sokoto on Saturday that the intending pilgrims departed for Saudi Arabia around 5pm on Saturday.
Bukar said that another aircraft, with registration number 200-3, took off from the airport with 537 intending pilgrims
Governor Saidu Dakingari of Kebbi State, his wife, Zainab; and 48 other intending pilgrims from Kebbi State were among those aboard the aircraft.
It will be recalled that the ill-fated Kabo Airlines’ plane on Friday had a burst tyre as it landed at the Sokoto airport to pick the remaining pilgrims.
Another Boeing 747 aircraft flew in from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to convey the intending pilgrims.
Meanwhile, the last batch of intending pilgrims from Sokoto State have been transported from the airport by Max Airlines.
The Boeing 747 aircraft left the Sokoto airport around 4pm on Saturday with 484 prospective pilgrims from Sokoto South Local Government Area and some state officials.
