Journalists cry out over attacks in Nasarawa

Some journalists in Nasarawa State on Monday expressed worry over what they termed unwarranted attacks on their colleagues in the state.

This was contained in a communiqué after an emergency congress of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, and signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Sulaiman Abubakar and Isaac Ukpoju respectively.

The Chapel condemned the attack on Hir Joseph, a correspondent of Daily Trust newspaper, by suspected touts during Governor Umaru Al-Makura’s inauguration in Lafia.

It also noted with concern threats to the lives of other journalists in the state by the same group of touts, with branded T shirts bearing acronyms of a political party.

The chapel, therefore, urged the state government and security agencies to take proactive measures to safeguard the lives of journalists in the state.

It, therefore, called on the government to ensure immediate arrest of the perpetrators for possible prosecution.
