Some journalists covering CAF’s most prestigious Awards, the 2015 Glo-CAF Awards, at the Eko Hotels and suites, have decried inadequate preparations for the event.
Afolabi Gambari of the National Mirror told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that late accreditation of journalists had always been a recurring issue.
Gambari said: “Honestly, it’s so unfortunate that some of us have been here since10am and nobody is telling us anything.
“Glo as a corporate organisation should have worked with timeliness in mind.
“I have attended previous CAF awards in Ghana and accreditation for journalists should not be a big deal, if proper planning had been in place.”
Ganiyu Yusuf of Complete Sports added that late accreditation had become the norm in CAF awards by organisers, stressing that this was not good for the image of African football.
Yusuf said: “It’s so worrisome that we have yet to get it right as the same thing happened last year.
“It’s so stressful for journalists getting into the venue, which shouldn’t be.”
“It is ironical that even the CAF online accreditation does not work,” complained Kayode Tijani, a media consultant.
Some NAN correspondents at the venue learnt that the accreditation, which ought to have commenced at 1pm, but as at 3pm, the organisers had yet to start the process.
