Jonathan seeks extension of emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno, Yobe

The National Security Council rose from its meeting on Monday in Abuja announcing the extension of the state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Belo Adoke, confirmed this to State House correspondents after the meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to Adoke, the Council reviewed the emergency rule and approved that it should be extended.
He said added that the request for extension from the Presidency to the National Assembly will be done immediately.
“We just reviewed the issue of the state of emergency and the government would be requesting the National Assembly to extend,” Adoke said.
It will be recalled that President Jonathan in May 2013 requested and got the approval of the National Assembly to impose emergency rule in the three states worst hit by the insurgents.
It was renewed in May this year and now due for renewal for the third time.
Present at the Security Council meeting were the Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General of the Federation, the Police Affairs Minister and the National Security Adviser.
