Information reaching The Eagle Online has it that the publisher of National Mirror and Daily Newswatch newspapers, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim, has bought troubled Compass newspaper.
Compass newspaper is owned by a former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
It was gathered that the deal, which had been in pipeline for several months, was eventually sealed early this week.
Ibrahim was reported to have spent several hours in the premises of the newspaper on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday.
The Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of Compass newspaper, Sina Kawonise, was said to have conducted Ibrahim around the company.
Ibrahim was said to have inspected the whole premises.
Those who accompanied Kawonise in conducting Ibrahim round the premises included the Daily Editor of the newspaper, Yinka Olujimi.
It was gathered that the deal was eventually signed on Wednesday.
Sources said the company is worth about N2.6 billion.
It could, however, not be confirmed as at press time how much Ibrahim paid for its acquisition.
Ibrahim, who came to the company’s premises at about 11am in five vehicles, is also reported to have bought off-the-stand Sketch newspapers.
He is also said to be eyeing ThisDay newspaper, which has been having challenges paying staff salaries and emoluments.
