The National Orientation Agency on Wednesday said it was the responsibility of Nigerians to ensure violence free and peaceful 2019 general elections.
The State Director of NOA, Kaduna State, Zubairu Galadima Soba, said this during the flag off of voter education campaign on peaceful elections in Kaduna.
Soba said that the voter education campaign by NOA was to educate stakeholders on the need for peaceful conduct for free, fair and credible elections.
He added that the campaign was part of NOA’s mandate to sensitise stakeholders to ensure credible polls.
He said: “Therefore the program is to appeal to Nigerians and remind them of their responsibility in ensuring violence free and peaceful conduct of elections.
“The peace needed to guide this election must be first before the election, during camping periods; people must also obey the rules during the elections and must obey the guidelines during the conduct of the elections.
“Also after the elections, we need peace for the politicians who have grievances to go for dispute relation mechanism, such as Election Tribunals to seek redress.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that some stakeholders in the awaresness campaign included, Security Agencies, INEC, Religious Leaders, NYSC, Traditiona Leaders, and Youth Organisions among others.
NAN also reports that stakeholders pledged their support for free fair and credible elections, urging parents not to allow their wards be used as political thugs.
