Inter Milan has appointed Luciano Spalletti as the club’s new head coach.
Spalletti has put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal at San Siro, to become the Nerazzurri’s fifth coach in the space of a year.
The 58-year-old guided Roma to second place in Serie A with an impressive 87-point haul last season but off-field issues hastened his exit from the Stadio Olimpico last month.
The ex-Zenit coach grew frustrated with his treatment by certain sections of the Rome media towards the end of the season, with the issue revolving around the playing time and impending retirement of Francesco Totti.
Having elected to leave the Giallorossi, Tuscan-born Spalletti will now seek to restore Inter to former glories after another difficult season for the 2010 European champions.
A club statement declared: “FC Internazionale is delighted to announce that Luciano Spalletti has been appointed as head coach of the first team.
“The new coach, who has signed a two-year contract, will be unveiled at a media conference at Suning Training Centre in memory of Angelo Moratti next Wednesday at 12:00 CET. He will take his first training session with the team on Monday 3 July.”
The Milan giants finished seventh last season during an underwhelming campaign under first Frank de Boer and then Stefano Pioli.
A fourth defeat in a row back in April saw Pioli sacked, leaving a sour taste in the mouth of many supporters who still backed the ex-Lazio boss.
